SCUBA DIVER CERTIFICATION COURSE

INTRODUCTION

We welcome your interest in the exciting sport of scuba diving.  If you decide to enroll in this course and become a certified diver, you will eventually see and do many things, which will take you far beyond your wildest dreams and expectations.  Imagine for example, the excitement of exploring one of the world's many ancient shipwrecks, spear fishing for you dinner, photographing breathtaking underwater scenes, or swimming with dolphins.  These adventures are just a few of the many that await you, and although they cannot be adequately described, the certainly can me experienced by the certified diver!  Make plans to join us now!

To become a "certified" diver, you must take an approved scuba diving course offered by any one of a number of different agencies - among them is NAUI.  The NAUI Scuba Diver certification course has been approved by NAUI.  It was designed to provide students with the knowledge and skill needed to safely and enjoyably participate in the sport of scuba diving.  Anyone with ordinary swimming skills, normal health and physical fitness, and the ambition and desire to do so can gain scuba certification by taking and fulfilling all the requirements of this course.  Those students who successfully complete the course receive a NAUI Scuba Diver certification card (also referred to as a "C" card).  This card, which never needs to be renewed and is recognized throughout the world is, along with your newly acquired knowledge and skills, necessary to safely enter into the exciting underwater world of the scuba diver.

COURSE INFORMATION

The NAUI scuba diver course takes place at the Fitchburg YMCA.  The course consists of seven classroom and pool sessions, and meets from 5:45p.m. until 9:30p.m. every Tuesday night.  You will introduced to you instructor the first night of the course.  Additionally, two days of open water work are required; the dates and times for the open water portion of the course are discussed and arranged during the course.

The price of the course is $300.00 and includes the following:

On the first night of the course, each student should bring a pen or pencil, small notebook or pad of paper, a bathing suit, a t-shirt, and a towel.  Since we will be doing work in the pool (even on the first night, it is recommended that the students avoid having a heavy meal before coming to class.  Beginning with the second session, each student will need to bring, in addition to the items just mentioned above, their own mask, snorkel (with snorkel keeper), fins, and wetsuit booties.

To ensure that each student receives the maximum benefit from the training provided in this course, enrollment is limited to a maximum of 14 students; this is done on a first come, first serve basis.
