Basic Scuba
Course Description
We welcome your interest in the exciting sport
of scuba diving. If you decide to enroll in this course and
become a certified diver, you will eventually see and do many
things, which will take you far beyond your wildest dreams and
expectations. Imagine for example, the excitement of exploring
one of the world's many ancient shipwrecks, spear fishing for you
dinner, photographing breathtaking underwater scenes, or swimming
with dolphins. These adventures are just a few of the many
that await you, and although they cannot be adequately described,
the certainly can me experienced by the certified diver! Make
plans to join us now!
To become a "certified" diver, you must take
an approved scuba diving course offered by any one of a number of
different agencies - among them is NAUI. The NAUI Scuba Diver
certification course has been approved by NAUI. It was
designed to provide students with the knowledge and skill needed to
safely and enjoyably participate in the sport of scuba diving.
Anyone with ordinary swimming skills, normal health and physical
fitness, and the ambition and desire to do so can gain scuba
certification by taking and fulfilling all the requirements of this
course. Those students who successfully complete the course
receive a NAUI Scuba Diver certification card (also referred to as a
"C" card). This card, which never needs to be renewed and is
recognized throughout the world is, along with your newly acquired
knowledge and skills, necessary to safely enter into the exciting
underwater world of the scuba diver.
COURSE INFORMATION
The NAUI scuba diver course takes place at the
Fitchburg YMCA. The course consists of seven
classroom and pool sessions, and meets from 5:45p.m. until
9:30p.m. every Tuesday night. You will
introduced to you instructor the first night of the course.
Additionally, two days of open water work are required; the dates
and times for the open water portion of the course are discussed and
arranged during the course.
The price of the course is $295.00
and includes the following:
1. NAUI course registration fee
2. Course textbook - NAUI Scuba Diver
3. NAUI Dive Tables
4. Use of the following pieces of equipment
for pool and open water work:
Scuba Tank, Regulator, Octopus Regulator,
Pressure Gauge, Depth Gauge, Buoyancy Compensator, Wetsuit Jacket,
Pants, Hood, and Mitts, Weight Belt, and Weights
On the first night of the course, each student
should bring a pen or pencil, small notebook or pad of paper, a
bathing suit, a t-shirt, and a towel. Since we will be doing
work in the pool (even on the first night, it is recommended that
the students avoid having a heavy meal before coming to class.
Beginning with the second session, each student will need to bring,
in addition to the items just mentioned above, their own mask,
snorkel (with snorkel keeper), fins, and wetsuit booties.
ENROLLING IN THE COURSE
To ensure that each student receives the
maximum benefit from the training provided in this course,
enrollment is limited to a maximum of 14 students; this is done on a
first come, first serve basis.
AGE REQUIREMENT: The student must be at
least 13 years old at the start of the course. Parental
consent is required for students under the age of 18.
PRE-REGISTRATION: To guarantee yourself
a place in the next available course, you can pre-register by
submitting $100.00 deposit (which is credited toward the course
fee). Checks are made payable to the course instructor.
Only the first 14 people who pre-register will be guaranteed a place
in the next course. Please note; however, that this deposit
can only be refunded if a doctor certifies that you have a medical
condition, which prohibits you from participating in dive
activities. Any individual who simply does not show up for the
course after having pre-registered will forfeit the $100.00 deposit.

body. Scuba diving with certain medical conditions (known or
unknown to the diver) can, under certain conditions, cause specific
medical problems. For this reason, all course enrollees are

the results of this questionnaire, a medical examination by a
physician my be waved or required.

TDI -
Introduction to Technical Diving
This
program introduces students to technical diving. The objective of this
course is to familiarize students with technical equipment
configurations, enhance openwater skills and introduce students to
advanced gas planning. How you do in this program may be a good
indication if technical diving is for you. This course is a
no-decompression program. All dives will be no-decompression dives. If
already certified, students are permitted to use nitrox mixes.
Qualifications:
Upon successful completion of this
course graduates may plan and conduct dives that approximate activities
in this course using technical equipment configurations. Graduates may
also enroll in the TDI Advanced Nitrox and Decompression Procedures
course. A portion of this program’s tuition may be applied towards the
Advanced Nitrox and Decompression Procedures course.

TDI –
Advanced Nitrox & Decompression Procedures
These courses are combined to take
maximum advantage of each individual course. This course examines the
theory, methods and procedures for planned decompression diving using
nitrox mixes for decompression. The objectives of this program are to
train divers how to plan and conduct staged decompression dives not
exceeding 150 feet and the benefits, hazards and proper procedures for
utilizing nitrox mixes from 21% to 100% oxygen. You will be presented
thorough explanation of technical equipment & configurations,
appropriate dive planning and gas management.
Qualifications:
Upon successful
completion of this program graduates may engage in staged decompression
dives using nitrox mixes from 21% to 100% oxygen for optimal mixes to a
depth of 150 feet. Graduates may enroll in the Extended Range or Entry
Level Trimix course. A portion of this program’s tuition may be applied
to the Extended Range or Entry Level Trimix course.

NAUI ADVANCED SCUBA DIVER
CERTIFICATION COURSE
INTRODUCTION
Now that you

have to keep coming to the surface to

Advanced Scuba Diver course will help
you gain the additional experiences and

The NAUI
Advanced Scuba course is designed for
the newer diver who wishes to try other
types of diving and to become proficient
at underwater navigation. In this course
you will be taught both natural and
compass navigation, learn how to plan
and conduct safe deeper diving, plan and
conduct a wreck dive (no penetration),
and learn how to plan for and actually
dive at night which is a fantastic
experience. You will also learn the
procedures used to conduct safe boat
dives, recover objects underwater with
the use of a lift bag! You will conduct
a total of six dives during this course.
